Austin Gray

The music of Austin Gray has been described as “a sweet fusion of Country and Americana.” Currently residing in Nashville, Austin began to develop his unique style on the guitar at the age of twelve when he was introduced to the man who would kindle his love for performing. Jody Payne had just retired from 36 years as the lead guitar player for Willie Nelson and became fascinated with the skinny youngster about whom he told others, “reminds me of me.” Several years after Jody’s passing, another Nashville legend took an interest in the young artist. Songwriter Jimmy Yeary—with CMA and ACM Song of the Year Awards—began to mentor Austin regarding all aspects of his career. Currently, the two even do corporate events together—speaking, playing, and singing— demonstrating to business people the purpose and power of mentoring. Austin has become known as one of a handful of artists to whom audiences listen intently. His songwriting—lyrics and music—combine the influences of Jason Isbell, Shakey Graves, Merle Haggard, Sturgill Simpson, and Jimmy Yeary.
